UFIS JB®
Keeping up with Technological ProgressTechnology continues to advance and UFIS Airport Solutions monitors these developments closely. Once it has become clear which advancements will become industry-proven de-facto standards, UFIS Airport Solutions will introduce them to the aviation sector. An IT system for airports, ground handlers or airlines needs to have long-term support so a short-lived development fashion is not what our customers need. UFIS® development continues to include technological advances: new server architectures and integration platforms are supported, and new communication media are incorporated into the system.

By combining the trusted functionality of the UFIS® product line with the latest, yet tried-and-tested, technologies, UFIS Airport Solutions has created a state-of-the-art package – UFIS JB® /Java-based/. The main features of UFIS JB® include:
• Complete development in Java
• Standard middleware
• Completely new relational database
• Advanced graphical interface
• Open architecture and usage of standard tools
• Easy assimilation in other systems with XML as the standard
Placing utmost importance on retaining well-established UFIS® functionality, the UFIS JB® includes JEE5, JMS, Application Servers, and Oracle 11g with Oracle Times Ten to provide a scalable, highly available and high performance solution.
The new system offers improved real-time performance and increased platform independence. The scalability features of the new platform will allow not only large-sized airports but small- and medium-sized airports to take advantage of the solutions offered by the new UFIS® product line.
CDM and Our Collaborative Approach
The aim of UFIS Airport Solutions' collaborative approach is to provide operational management solutions that are key to optimized efficiency, maximized profits and high quality for the entire airport community. An integrated IT environment benefits the stakeholders in operational activities through:
• sharing centralized information in real-time,
• speeding up the decision-making processes
• enabling them to take pre-emptive measures to prevent problems arising
Through this approach UFIS® provides optimized support for collaborative decision-making (CDM). This extends the boundaries of collaboration beyond the realms of the individual airport.
Enhancements in Multiple Airport Operation
The second phase of the development will also include enhancements to the UFIS® multiple airport and multi-terminal functionality. This will provide features that enable data common to all airports to be stored just in one location, simplifying the maintenance of this data. Data relating to a particular airport will be stored in locations relating to the particular airport within one central database for all airports.
Scenario Management
Also within the second phase of development, the functionality for real what-if scenarios will be introduced into the new UFIS® applications. This will enable planners to generate different scenarios for different conditions. Furthermore, it will provide functions to allow the planners and operators to compare the scenario used for planning with the resulting data once operation has been completed. This can assist planners greatly to improve the "quality" of their plans.
